While we were driving on safari I spotted a large bird sitting in a tree far in the distance. Because it was so big, I asked the driver what it was. He told me that it was an eagle (I don't remember the name) that was different than most because it was a scavenger. Unlike most eagles it fed from carcusses of dead animals, however it only ate freashly killed meat. The driver told us that since the eagle was sitting in the tree, that there was probaly a lion or leopard nearby feeding, and that the eagle was waiting for the cat to finish eating. We drove to the tree and sure enough there was a lion fast asleep at the base of the tree. He was sleeping so soundly that we were able to drive very near without waking him. You can see the remains of a zebra on the ground nearby, and also several large sausage-like friuts. These fruits were hanging from the tree which the driver called a sausage tree. We were riding in a van which opened on top, so it was easy to get a good shot of this wild sleeping lion.
