This is the mountain palace of Herod that served as the fortress and final hold out during the Jewish Revolution of 66 A.D. After surviving a three year siege by the Roman army, the jews inside the fortress decied that rather than be taken prisoners, they would take their own lives. 960 jews committed suicide the night before the fortress was stormed by the Roman army. When I first scanned this photo into my computer I was able to blow it up to a larger size. I noticed that I had captured two people kissing at the entrance to the stairs which led to the lower palace.
