This is a section of the city of Darmstadt in Southwestern in Germany. It is called Mathildenhöhe. The temple on the right is a Russian Orthodox chapel that was built in 1897. In 1899 the area was used to start an artist colony, and in 1906 the tall building on the left, which is known as the Marriage Tower, was built. The artist who settled and built their homes here are responsible for developing the style of Jugendstil, or Art Nouveau. This is the style that eventually inspired artists such as Gustave Klimt and Antoni Gaudí.
